Bike To Work Day May 9th 2019

Every year we have Bike To Work Day here in Alameda and throughout the Bay Area. I don't actually have to bike to work since I live and work in Alameda so I ride around and shoot photos and video of the Energizer Stations and people working at the event. This year we had the ability to try out the water-bike concept from Schiller on the docks at our afterparty.

Top 5 Reasons to live in Alameda

Here are my top five reasons why I love living in Alameda.

So full disclosure. I live here, so I'm kind of partial to Alameda

Crown Beach is a great place to see the San Francisco skyline, watch a sunset, or stroll on a sunny day. There are plenty of grassy areas to have a picnic at one of the many tables, or spread out a blanket. Popular among kite boarders, you can also rent a sailboard, or stand-up paddleboard at the board sports rental center, right on the beach. Crab Cove has a visitor center with nature programs for kids, and a large lawn. If you love to bike next to the beach, we have a newly completed, dedicated and protected, bike lane you can ride from the south end of the island, all the way to Crab Cove. In June, we have a sandcastle and sculpture contest.

#2 Alameda has a great variety of street fairs and festivals throughout the year. At Crab Cove during the summer, there are free concerts, and we also boast of having one of the largest 4th of July parades in the nation.

#3 Nightlife! While it certainly is not New York City or San Francisco, the downtown area Park Street has some excellent restaurants and bars near the renovated historicAlameda theater, where you can get food and drinks served at your seat. But it's not all about Park Street. There are wonderful restaurants in South Shore (I love Trabocco) and the Webster Street corridor, (1400 is one of my favorites) or you can head out to Spirits Alley at the site of the old Alameda Naval Air Station, where you'll find Rock Wall Wine Company, Almanac brewing company, and Building 43 Winery. And we have a world famous tikibar.

#4 Architecture! Although known for its Victorian era homes, we have beautiful examples of craftsman and Mediterranean architecture. We also have waterfront homes with docks and lagoons, condos that overlook the Bay, and for those who like modern homes, we have many new developments around the city.

#5  We're an island city! Where else in the Bay Area can you live on an island? There are two ferry terminals in Alameda where you can take a ferry directly to San Francisco, or to a Giants game. But more importantly, Alameda has a great community spirit and the natives are friendly. So if you haven't been here yet, come visit.

Alameda is no longer an undiscovered gem in the Bay Area. It's a flourishing, vibrant city with a great quality of life. I live here so I love it.
